In this Iran Desert Tour, you will be travelling to central south of Iran to visit Shahdad Kalouts and to do an Iran desert trek. Iran, unlike many other countries in the Middle East, is rich in both history and nature. Along side having a Shahdad Kalouts Tour, you will be also visiting UNESCO-registered Meymand village.

Shahdad Kalouts Tour Detailed Itinerary

Day 1       Tehran / Kerman / Meymand Village

Today we drive to Mehrabad Airport from the office as we have flight tickets early in the morning at 6:00 (there might be a small change in time according to airplanes schedule), about 1 hour from Tehran to Kerman, we have breakfast in Kerman then we drive to Rafsanjan City (114km, 2 hours), we go trekking inside Rage Canyon, a great canyon in the heart of desert, we have kebabs as lunch at the end of the trekking, having some rest we drive to Meymand Village (1h 30min), a village by 6000 years of history, have special local dinner, overnight Meymand inside hand carved caves, would be a great experience!

Day 2       Meymand / Mahan

After having breakfast at the nice traditional guest house of the village, at 9:00 we go to visit the beautiful historical rocky hand carved village of Meymand, we have lunch at the village then at 14:00 we leave to Mahan City (250km, 4h), as we arrive we go to visit Shazdeh Garden, UNESCO world heritage site, a nice historical garden built in Qajar Dynasty, have dinner at a restaurant in garden, overnight Mahan at a traditional cozy hotel inside the garden!

Day 3       Mahan / Shahdad 

After having breakfast at the hotel at 10:00 we drive to Shahdad (130km, 2h), the amazing desert where the famous Kalouts are located, we have lunch at the last village before the desert in a local residence, it’s a nice caravansary (castle) where we accommodate in the heart of the desert area, having some rest we go to walk through the desert for about 2h and enjoy watching beautiful scenery of sunset, back to the castle, have dinner, overnight Shahdad at the caravansary.

Day 4       Shahdad Desert

After having breakfast at 9:00 we go to visit Shahdad historical Castle, then we go for off-roading in the desert, then we have lunch in the heart of the desert by noon, we pass the hottest point on Earth located in Shahdad Desert named “Gandom Beryan” (means a place where wheat burns!), depending on the condition we can choose to camp in desert or go back to the castle, overnight Shahdad.

Day 5       Rayen 

After having breakfast at 9:00 we drive to Rayen City (130km, 2h), we go to visit Rayen Citadel from the pre-Islamic Sassanid era, then we drive to a nice canebrake (1h), we have lunch in the heart of nature inside canebrake, having some rest we walk for half an hour through the canebrake to reach a spring and also a waterfall where we can swim in the heart of desert that would be a unique experience! we have a traditional local meal for dinner, overnight Rayen at a hotel.

Day 6       Kerman / Tehran

After having breakfast at the hotel at 9:00 we leave Rayen to Kerman (105km, 1h 30min), we have time to walk through traditional Bazaar for sightseeing and shopping, have lunch at a restaurant, in the afternoon we may have some time to keep on shopping or chilling out before going to the Airport to fly back to Tehran (the flight ticket would be for 16:00 or 21:00 depends on the date), as we arrive at Tehran we drive to the office and that’s the end of our journey.
